Myopic Kieran

Kieran first had an eye check in school and did not score a 6/6. He was then referred to Health Promotion Board for a refraction test to confirm his short-sightedness.

Due to my travelling schedule, we managed to get an appointment for today at 3.45pm. It is now confirmed that our little boy is myopic, 1.25 right and 1.00 left with slight astigmatism. This also means he needs glasses. The optometrist said his astig might be in-born.

Hubby was disappointed and he feels wearing glasses would impede Kieran's active lifestyle in playing sports.

Curried away in Mumbai

Had a 3-day working trip in Mumbai from 25-27 May and it was the best so far. I've visited this dynamic city twice before but there weren't time at all to look around. Not only had I eaten the best Indian food every day but I also managed to see main attractions in 4 hours!

On Wednesdy, after 2 back-to-back meetings, together with my HK colleague, we did some sight-seeing before going to the airport for our midnight flights. The places we went in chronological order, thanks to the organization from our Indian colleagues:

1. Dhobi Ghat laundry place
This is a huge laundry bay where men wash linens by slapping them on slates repeatedly. Many lines of laundry can be seen hanging. It was an amazing sight and I couldn't resist capturing a short video of it.

2. Crawford Market
Next stop, we went to Crawford Markt to buy a dozen of mango as this is the season. The market was bustling (in fact, as with everywhere in Mumbai) with many sellers touting their best Alphonso mango. It has a nice architecture, which was completed in 1869.

3. Victoria Terminus
Now known as "Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus", it was opened in 1887 and a grand sight with beautifully crafted architecture. It was one of the places attacked by the terrorists in 2008 and a shot from it was taken for the Oscar winning movie, Slumdog Millionaire.

4. Gateway of India and Taj Mahal Hotel
The Gateway of India is like Champs Elysees in Paris. It nicely sits by the river amidst a spacious square. The magnificient Taj Mahal Hotel is located across it. As it was hard to find a nice toilet, we decided to find one in the hotel, at the same time we want to see how it looks like. The hotel was attacked by terrorists in 2008 where one Singaporean lawyer perished. There are barricades outside the main entrance of the hotel where rows of luxury boutiques locate. Security is very strict where visitors are screened twice. On our way to the airport (about 1.5 hour drive), we dropped by a shop and I bought a pashmina muffler while my friend got a shawl. It has this ultra soft lux feel on the skin, at the same time, keep one warm.

5. Kebab Dinner at Peshawri
We were so hungry that we gobbled down a garlic naan and a kulcha with yummy boneless chicken kebab, paired with mango lassi.

The airport is now less chaotic after the renovation. However, the immigration officer that I encountered got into my goat. He asked me which hotel I stayed, if I was sure my hotel was in Thane and questioned what sort of meetings did I have in Mumbai, etc. He seemed interrogative and when I told my friend in Cantonese that I couldn't believe he asked me those questions, he rebutted if I had a problem. #%$!%^$#&*!*#$

The flight home was pleasant. Due to my sinus problem, I can never get a good sleep on night flights. Now I can't wait for my Bali holiday!

MIL to the rescue

Phew, one week of being a half-day homemaker was T.O.U.G.H!!!!!

There was never-ending chores, laundry, cooking, washing and cleaning! Kudos to all homemakers, especially to Connie, Lisa and Kei (for those that I missed out, it was not intentionally coz after being a half-baked one for a week, I have gone bonkers). Just yesterday, I washed 3 loads of laundry and ironing amidst this fiery furnace-like weather! Plus, Raeyen wet my bed as he crawled in early morning and he leaked. He woke me and said, "Mommy, it's an accident." Arrghhhh... I had to bring my quilt to the dry-cleaners that cost me $40!

The good news is, MIL has finally returned from her holiday and will help us mind the kids, especially Raeyen (not housechores) while we are at work. In fact, her return came in timely as I will be going to Incredible !ndia this evening till Thursday and both boys have parent-teacher meeting while I am away :(

I'm on print!

I'm featured on a 3-page "Blog & Bond" spread in Parents World magazine (14 May-Jun 09 issue).

I will try to post a soft copy of that article when I manage to scan those pages. Basically, there is an excerpt of my blog entry and an interview by its editor Daniel Goh. The header on the spread epitomises everything.

"Priscilla Tan did not trade
her family for her career as she tells DANIEL GOH how she still manages to measure success in terms of moments she enjoys with her children and husband that are priceless and irreplaceable."

Maid woes

This is it. We have bought a one-way ticket for Yani to return to Indonesia.

We are still looking for a replacement. Meanwhile, hubby and I will take turns to apply leave to stay at home for the kids. Such is a life of a dual-income family with kid(s). No wonder couples here are not keen to have children.

Trust gone

Hubby delivered an earth-shattering news to me this morning. He called me at my office that he got a shock of his life after he read some SMSes from our helper's mobile phone. Messages from different men with lines such as "I love you", "I sayang you" and I f**k you". I nearly fainted.

Mom's Day celebration

We celebrate with May & family every Parent's Day, Christmas Eve and each other's birthday. This year, we celebrated Mom's Day with her, Megan, their helper Kasem and a special someone, Gordon. Hubby and I are very happy for May as she has found her soul mate after Yin has passed on.

We met at Acacia, Bishan Park for a simple dinner while the kids played in the park, only joined us after they were exhausted. Megan surprised me with a bouquet of flowers!

Though we do meet up from time to time, today was an excuse to meet and catch up. We have been friends for 25 amazing years! That's a quarter of a century, my goodness! May is very special to me and to us. She lends her shoulder for me to cry on, hears me out and goes all her way out to help me when I am in trouble. She is also the strongest person I have ever come across. She is the best a gal can ever ask for, better than a diamond.

Kieran, Raeyen and us love you, May.

To my amazing sister-in-law, Connie, we love you very much too. We miss you!

To my Mom, a speedy recovery!

To my Sis, I love you and am proud that you have brought up 2 very bright girls!

To my 2 other sisters-in-law, Amelia and Lisa, you are amazing too; your love and effort put into your families will pay off. My brothers are both fortunate to have you
as their wives!

Happy Mommy's Day

To all my wonderful mommy friends, today is the day we celebrate motherhood and all the joy our kiddos have brought to us and for all the effort we have put in.

Pressie from hubby & the kiddos is an empire sundress from Women'secret.

We will be celebrating this day with my best pal, May & her family as usual. And yes, I'm gonna wear it this evening and to our Bali holiday in June!

One Degree 15

Took the kids to One Degree 15 on Labour Day to meet up with my best friend May and her family.

We just chilled out at this cool place catching up with each other while the kids had a blast at the playroom, pool and playground.

It's always nice to hang out once in a while.

Raeyen's new bolster

When I was small, I had a little cloth as my security blanket. Raeyen's security blanket is a little worn-out bolster.

I was inspired to get him a new one when I saw what this blogger mom had sewn.

While shopping at Vivo City, I was drawn to a pushcart selling frilly pom-pom like cute little skirts for girls. Then I was pleased to find that it sells taggy bolsters & covers! The lady told me the covers were sewn by the designer. The fabric has nice prints and the ribbons are eye-catching! Without hesitation, I bought the larger cover for Raeyen.

He was thrilled when I showed it to him. He has since used it every nap- and bedtime.
